Yes, Riverside is very good and I may even put them at #2 in the state, maybe 3.
Until you claim best in state this year, you may consider you’re not the best out there in Loudoun. Or, did you forget the last game you played against a team down the road who is also undefeated this year? Thats gotta hurt.

We’d talk about Riverside more if they played in the best division(6A). 6A is deeper and harder to win than 5A, so while Riverside may be the best team, they just aren’t really relevant to most of the conversations we’re having about 6A

I think we can all agree that Riverside would be in the Top 5 regardless if they were 6A, 5A, 4A.
The Potomac District is tough. 5 Teams in that District are in the Top 30 of VHSL Public Schools. (Riverside, Stone Bridge, Freedom, Lightridge, Briar Woods) No other District has more than 3. (Madison, Yorktown, Langley) (Robinson, West Potomac) (Indy, Battlefield)
Now, outside of Riverside, and maybe Stone Bridge, all of those 6A schools are better than the next three in the Potomac District. Region C sucks outside of Robinson and West Potomac

Yeah, briar was not good this year.
Lightridge was a fraud beating up on weak teams and losing to any real competition

He didn’t play up to his usual standard. Missed a few passes that he usually connects on. He also had a goal and four assists facing a shutoff the whole game.

He's a great player. YT actually had the most success early in the game when Madison was maybe overplaying him a bit, because he was great at finding open guys.

Agreed - YT had Madison’s number first half. Looks like Madison staff made adjustments at halftime

This is the problem for all the sports in Virginia. The regular season means very little- all the teams make district playoffs regardless of how they did during the regular season/ non district games mean very little. The season extends for weeks. IMHO the district championship should go to the team with the best record in the regular season. Only district champs should make the regional tournament and only regional champs should make the state championship. You would cut weeks off the season and reduce the strain of coaches and refs and not interfere with graduation prom summer club etc

We are talking what maybe 1 game (maybe 2) for most teams and allows the season to end at somewhat of a normal time frame. This would allow various kids, particularly seniors, to enjoy their last couple of weeks of school before heading off to college or their next adventure. I can assure you not all the kids on the team feel more lacrosse is better.

It would also eliminate the participation trophy aspect of this.

It sounds like your son may not like lacrosse and didn't win anything. I can assure you my son's team was extremely happy to win regionals, ESPECIALLY the seniors, most of whom won't play organized sports ever again. Also, you know that there is a whole summer between the end of high school and the start of college, right? If your son would rather start bussing tables at Chili's a week earlier instead of spending time with his teammates, that's too bad.

Also, what participation trophies? There are no literal trophies, and the "reward" for going through to the next round is busting your butt in practice in VA heat in June and having another hard-fought game, how is that a blue ribbon for everyone? People are just throwing "participation trophy" out mindlessly every time they don't like something about youth sports, it makes zero sense here.

So, my son loves lacrosse and is moving on to college. His season has been over for a while because he plays for a private.

I guess public school parents don't understand euphemisms when I say participation trophy...regional banner. Same thing different object. Do you think anyone at the 20 year reunion will care in the least that some team won a regional title...make that anyone at all. I can see it now "Introducing the senior class that won the Division 6A, b regional title when the moon was full - but didn't win the regional title when the moon was waningthat went to team g" No. they won't. it is either state title or nothing. The fact schools hang banners for these "accomplishments" is amusing and further proof it is just a participation banner - it is kind of like the Wizards hanging a banner when they won the 2017 Southeast Division title. Big deal.

Saying that I don't have a problem with regional titles if it actually meant something. In this case, Madison beat Yorktown, YT team should be looking for the tv remote, golf clubs, working on their tan...whatever. The shouldn't be preparing for a game. Make the regional title means something instead of just a reworking of the state playoff bracket.

If a senior doesn't want to play out the string of the last 1-2 weeks then they are free to quit. Just because your kid wasn't playing on a good team and can't manage to be a big boy and show up doesn't mean other teams shouldn't get the chance to play their final games.

I actually think the PP has a point. The lax season for some of these teams is pushing into mid-June. For the lax rats - some kids are missing club practices and club tournaments where they could be getting recruited (college coaches aren't coming to the VHSL playoffs). Other kids are missing out on making money with a summer job. And of course - some are just missing out on summer fun.

Even if you keep regional and state playoffs to the same format, it wouldn't affect things much at all to just shorten the regular season by two weeks. You're talking about cutting 3-4 games, and can still have about a 12 game regular season schedule. That's what most of the privates are doing for regular season, and they don't have 2 sets of playoffs to potentially play in.

Of course I have a point. The counter arguments are mostly logical fallacies without any real substance. The publics could also just not take off a week in the season for spring break like the privates do and just play games. That shortens the season by a week.

There are a bunch of club lax events going on right now - mostly show cases - that some public school kids are missing out.

Ridiculous argument. Its well documented that the transitive property does not work for high school sports. In leymans terms, just because team a beat team b, team b beat team c, it does not mean team a will beat team c. Prime example langley best SB, SB beat Riverside, riverside beat WP, langley lost to WP

You have to read the "Rating Math Key", importantly the Sportsmanship Differential. OP actual rating is 56 but has them on Indy's schedule as 88 as the same for all the other teams they beat by 10 plus.

Indy's average opponent has a LaxNumbers score of ~74. Madison is at ~79, West Potomac ~78, Robinson is at ~78, Yorktown ~78, Cosby ~72, and Thomas Dale ~66.

I absolutely hate to say this, but Indy is the best team in the state at this moment and have been since last year too. Riverside and Briar from last year were much closer than any team this year.

Come up with all the numbers and justifications you want, but Ive been around long enough to see with my eyes that they are. Does this guarantee a championship, NO, but at this point my money is on them.
And that bugs the h3ll out of me.

Your so right, I mean it’s so ridiculously easy just to change the way playoffs have been done for years, oh oh let’s also add shot clock for every school in Virginia and even make everyone play NCAA rules! Gosh, I can’t believe no one has ever thought about making these rule changes because they are so simple to do across all of Virginia, you must be a genius!!!

While the concept remains the same, remember that VHSL uses this same playoff format (Districts, Regions, States) across all sports not just lacrosse so making a change is harder than it might appear. In other sports there is probably more competitive balance across districts which might result in unexpected results and Cinderella championship runs which makes it harder to change the current system. Thats less possible in lacrosse where a handful of programs dominate year in and year out.

DeMatha was not good at all this year; does not help your case. if you beat PVI, that would be saying something. Otherwise, play up to 6A. in the meantime, yawn...

Well Riverside played Robo and won overall and was winning by 3 goals when the starters played. YAWN
