I just found out that my new company lets workers who are mothers leave at noon today since it’s Mother’s Day weekend. And they’ll do the same with the fathers next weekend.
I have never wished I’d invented a fake kid more than this moment. When my coworkers leave at noon, not one ounce of work will get competed by me until quitting time. I’m also still getting Indeed job alerts and one piqued my interest earlier this week, but not enough to apply, but now? I think I will. |
Sorry, meant next month for fathers not next weekend. |
| That’s ridiculous. I’m a mom, not that it matters. OP, find out when Aunt/Uncle Day is and leverage that for a half day off to celebrate your (real or invented) nieces and nephews. |
| Leave and say you're going to celebrate your own mom. Do it with a straight face. |
This! Who makes these kinds of stupid decisions that are so bad for workplace morale?? |
| International Childfree Day is August 1. You should leave at noon on 7/31 to celebrate. |
| Does your job pay for happy hours? |
| my husband's job gave everyone the option to leave an hour early for mother's day but mine did not. |
| Jeez. What a dumb hill to die on. If you don't like your job, sure, apply to others. But what a messed up society that you can just be happy for a few coworkers and get over yourself? It's a half a day off. |
| I would just leave at noon today. Surely you are a mother to something. Perhaps a pet rock? |
np.. this policy does cause resentment, and I say this as a mother. A long time ago, pre kids, a bunch of us had traveled to Europe for work. It was grueling. The Director told one of us that they could go home because they had kids. Um.. that means the rest of us were left holding the bag. It's not the right way to do things. Bad leadership. |

At least they're treating the mothers and fathers equally.
You know who it hurts the most? Not the adults who don't have kids. The other adults who are caregivers, who maybe look after elderly parents in their own home. Caregivers of any kind are stretched thin and it makes sense for them to receive a break every now and then. |
| How do they know that people who leave are mothers? |
| Leave to go call.gour own mom.OP, or visit her grave. Win win |
| Say that you found out you’re pregnant this morning and leave early. |
