Well, it didn't work with Matty Healy did it? Or any of the others that came before him/after him/during him, however that all works. She stayed fairly consistent with "type" for a while and it didn't work. Wouldn't you be willing to try something different after all that "type" didn't work? Travis isn't all of that (he might be dirty sex, but who knows...), but he's also not all of the toxicity that she experienced. He's also not all the "intimidated by her fans" nonsense. He brought them along and celebrated them and gave them credit for the podcast popularity. He gave them credit for the Eagles Christmas song going to number one.
