This. Run someone who discusses the educational issues and is clear that they are not going to try and legislate what books the kids are reading, are not transphobs, are not homophobes, and are not interested in turning all schools into Christian values only places. The Republican candidates in the last cycle where Mom's for Liberty and MAGA folks who are not going to stand a chance in any election here. Run some moderates and you will have a different story. |
Eye. Freaking. Roll. Stop. You want sanity in American politics, you stop this nonsense. Or do you think all Nikki Haley voters who are still casting those protest votes in primaries long after she dropped out are everything you say. |
There are certainly people who identify as Republicans who still might fit this centrist model, but the official party calls them RINOs and does it's best to purge them. |
Haley voters might not believe all those things, but the Republican party also calls them RINOs and attempts to purge them. Remember, Trump said Haley donors are no longer welcome in the party 🤷. I would say, arguably, those individuals are politically homeless - they just haven't accepted it yet. |
I began opting my DC out of SOLs very early in ES. Maybe after the first year -is that 2nd grade?
Do what works for your student. It simply wasn’t worth the hype, pressure, stress and anxiety my DC experienced. Doesn’t have to be a movement - just opt out and take a family trip, enjoy the time together in a meaningful way. Absolutely no bearing upon your DC’s academic future. |
Fine, but that level of nuance was not present in the "there's no such thing as a...conservative who doesn't believe in those things." You didn't specify Republicans who call certain stripes of right leaning people RINOs. You said all conservatives are insane. That kind of discourse is a major problem in America today. Use the level of nuance you used the second time around, please. |
SOLs are half a day at school, probably not even that long. What family trip are you taking? |
I should have specified - I wasn't the original poster you took issue with. Just pointing out that, while taking umbrage with a broad brush is fine, taking issue with the party you supposedly don't agree with - but still identify with - might be more productive. Ultimately, even if you don't share MAGA beliefs, continuing to support the Republican party in it's current form is supporting those beliefs in action. |
I don't personally identify as a Republican anymore, but as a conservative. PP caught both of us in the same net. You didn't. Thanks for clarifying. |
And just like that we achieved a DCUM miracle - civil discourse across the political spectrum 😂. Have a wonderful rest of your day! |
This is a bad idea. It's way better to practice test taking with SOLs that don't actually count than to take your first one when it's necessary for a class credit. OP - your movement makes no sense and it's silly to boycott a requirement set by the state. |
Avoiding anxiety provoking situations is the opposite of helpful for anxious people. You are not helping your DC by this. |
DS's school is a targeted improvement school. They now have targeted SOL study blocks every day. That costs them 10 minutes of class time per real class every day. Some of the parents with LIV kids are protesting by opting out of SOLs. Hopefully the school sees how many kids who normally pass advance are opting out and reverses course. If not, the scores will drop further and we'll get new school leadership. |
Buncha jerks. |
It isn’t a problem. If you vote Republican, you are an awful human being. There’s no nuance. |
