While I enjoyed The Kite Runner, I have to agree. It's mass market and will be denied by the "literary canon" crowd. |
Life of Pi
The Kite Runner A Thousand Splendid Suns Middlesex |
Middlesex, Life of Pi, Atonement and The Road were excellent. The Kite Runner was merely good by comparison. The first half (2/3?) of the Poisonwood Bible was exceptional, but the rest of the book just didn't measure up. Really unfortunate.
From the Reddit thread - loved loved loved Everything Is Illuminated, and really disliked A Visit from the Goon Squad. |
I'll add a favorite that hasn't been mentioned: A Thousand Acres. I think that was pre-2000 though. |
Ta-Nahesi Coates, Beautiful Struggle. Literary genius. |
Fifty Shades of Grey |
Lovely Bones |
Bel Canto |
Good book, but I wouldn't call it a classic. |
The Tiger's Wife |
And twilight |
Hated both of these books. Hated. I not at all arguing with you but I just don't like them. Now, I don't like the human stain author at all. He writes complicated men and one-dimensional women so I could be responding to his obvious misogyny. White teeth, I'll admit, I don't get so I don't viscerally hate that one. Just don't get it. |
I like popular junk and can't read dan brown. I liked Kite Runner but don't think it quite measures up to those mentioned on this thread. |
I hate to admit this b/c i feel like I"m admitting I"m old but I don't get reddit.
following the threads is challenging. And what's with the point system and why are there arrows? sorry to hijack. Slightly. I am hoping oP gives me a straight answer. doing a s/o post will result in me being labeled old and being told to step away from the computer and drink some Geritol or something like that. |
