I’m not hearing of as many 1500+ scores with the new online SAT (across my older and younger kids and their friends). Maybe the sample size is too small or maybe the scores are shifting and 1500 will again be harder to hit? |
My son took one of the last paper SAT and got 1500 (740 verbal 760 math). Took a digital and got 680 math and 770 verbal. Obv a huge difference there. College counselor says the 1530 superscore will stand well but he will still take it again and hope to bring up the math a bit. |
Are you insane? |
Don’t submit to WashU. Submit to the other 2 listed. |
A 1530 will get him into his state school. Congrats. |
Excuse me? He’s an ambitious kid, looking at T20 non ivys. 1530 isn’t even 50th percentile for some of them. |
My kid got into two T20 privates (Rice & Cornell) without submitting scores this year; but ED deferred then rejected to a T10 when submitting the scores. 33 ACT and 3.9uw Non-stem |
This. |
Exactly. UVA is a great option. |
Depressing. |
What else does he have going for him? |
Why? |
Too low for UVA. SCHEV reports entering class last year had a 1510 or greater at the 75th percentile. |
Have you looked at the CDS to see what percent were submitting SAT scores? Because last I checked only 2 or 3 of T20 had even a bare majority submitting scores. Only 1 or 2 even had more than 60%. Which tells me we don’t know the test scores for MOST of the past few years at these colleges. But if you are a big believer in tests, I’d suggest going back to 2019 and before and seeing what the 25/50/75 percentile was for your list back then. If a 1500 was 50/75 percentile then, it probably would still be considered a strong score. The difference is that the standardized scores became drastically de-emphasized over the past few years. I’d say a 1500 won’t get you rejected from anywhere. And the incremental benefit of 1530 or 1550 will be negligible. That time could almost certainly be put to better use. |
So many kids went test optional last year with amazing scores. Hopefully this year 1400 will be seen for what it is - a great score that won't help or hurt and should be submitted. |
