Computers and cell phones in the bedroom

They're allowed in the bedroom during the times he's allowed to have the phone/computer in general. In our house, everything is plugged in downstairs and devices are in downtime mode at 9pm on school nights and 10pm Fri/Sat.

I’m 100% ok with that. It works for us and we’ve raised two kids to adulthood.

It's interesting because this is a question our pediatrician asks at every annual appointment, along with whether there are guns in the household and if helmets are used for bikes, scooters, and skateboards. So I kind of assumed most other tween parents wouldn't allow it if there were other options, except for cases where there were no other options in a small apartment.

No phone yet. But computer stays in room. He prefers to do homework in room. But WiFi shuts off at night

There are lot of people like the PP who don't monitor anything because it's a lot easier to do nothing.

Not overnight, for sure. We have a loud apartment so I understand going in a room with a closed door to study or do homework or Facetime a friend. But Dh and I have an office with a door and two computers so the kids go in there for tech-related "privacy".

I wouldn't allow overnight. Even without social media issues i myself have a phone addiction. Didn't start until late college when i got one at least. My oldest is still young but already has a hard time turning off the light and putting a book away shes reading.

My kid is not even home by 10pm on weekends

Some kids have sports and other things in the morning.

Every single Sat/Sun for 52 weekends? My kid is in a travel sport and 2 other varsity sports and to not have any screen access at 10pm on weekends is crazy.

No devices in bedrooms for us - boys are 14 and 11. I figure they are less likely to be tempted to watch inappropriate content if they are using their devices in a public area of the house.

The 11 year old doesn't have a phone yet, but the 14 year old charges his phone downstairs overnight. We don't do any other limits, though, in terms of time on devices.

15 year old DS has computers, gaming consoles. phone in his room. He is responsible and needs larger high performance computer for work.

He rarely plays on gaming consoles. Maybe an hour or two at most in a week. Probably hasn’t been on one in 3 weeks though.
