University Rankings in 1925:Not much has changed

Speaking of DCUM, when did that start?

UVA has been declining in rankings as well. I wonder if it will end up following the same path.

UVA is directly next to University of Florida in the rankings. That day has already come.

Good point. Where did it go so wrong? It was in the top 3 public for decades and now barely holding on to top 5.

And soon will be behind UF. Chomp chomp!

If the link does not work, the rundown is
Top 10 (1925)
1. Chicago
2. Harvard
3. Columbia
4. Yale
5. Wisconsin
6. Princeton
7. Johns Hopkins
8. Michigan
9. Berkeley
10. Cornell

Premier agricultural school, when the industry was still a big employer??

Dumbest analogy ever. Of course there is similarities in the top lists, but is relevant or meaningful? No. The only thing this proves is the power of donations that fund endowments.

UVA hasn't kept up with the times. For popular majors like STEM and CS, people look elsewhere now.

It is the OP. The Wisconsin booster constantly wants to remind everyone how great Wisconsin was last century.

Public universities really were that great. The decline of public universities is the real story here.

Still see Berkeley and Michigan highly ranked. UCLA has now joined the group.

UVA was set up for failure, since anyone interested in CS will go to VT instead

It does appear that STEM ratings have negatively affected UVA. It was just a matter of time before its pecking order among top public schools declined.

Currently there are no publics in top 10. The top 3 publics: UCLA and Berkeley are tied at #15 and Michigan is at #21.

That’s true. However if you look at PA scores, Berkeley is still top ten and Michigan is top 15. The original rankings at USNWR were based off PA scores. So these two universities haven’t really declined, the metrics of rankings just changed.

That is a good point.

Don't know why Michigan Booster always tries to make the claim that Wisconsin was an agriculture school. Yes, they've always had an agricultural department, because they are in fact in Wisconsin. But, they were founded as the "University of Wisconsin", not the "state agricultural college". From 1848 to 1866, no agriculture classes were offered, and Wisconsin already gained prominence in their math and greek departments. In fact, in 1852, the Univ of Michigan attempted to hire away Wisconsin's chancellor John Hiram Lathrop, but he refused.
