Why not close the achievement gap from the top down?

Plus, unless you intend to force all kids to attend public schools that will teach everyone the exact same thing, you're just going to encourage wealthier people to put their kids in private school or to homeschool. This will increase the achievement gap.

Then why are you advocating holding back the best and brightest because they're not wealthy?

And I’m sorry but no kid needs advanced calculus in high school.

Why not narrow the achievement gap by finding ways to lower the test results for the top performers?

WTF OP? What do you think local school systems' been doing? Why do you think the school systems used to be excellent (MCPS/FX) are in the sh*t bucket now?

Weird, kids today seem to learn 4X more than I did when I was in FCPS 30 years ago. I think the average SAT in FCPS back then was below 900/1600.

Uhh … are you not aware of the fact that the SAT used to be much harder than it is now?

Most of the top math students in America are Asian.

Well, we'd better send them all to the gulag, then.

+1. It’s like the premise of an Ayn Rand novel where all the smart people leave and end up creating their own secret nation.

Because you are also hurting the high performing minorities that have less resources. You are effectively increasing the achievement gap. The highly successful minortities that you see today were aided by increasing access to advanced courses and colleges. If you remove the access, those with connections, parental resources, and privilege will still thrive while we hold back the best and brightest minorities.

I mean isn't this what schools are already doing!? They ignore top performers and have the top performers help the other kids.

DP. Yes, it used to be harder, but an average of 900? Ouch.

The best and the brightest are being held back because those who are not don’t want to feel bad. That is seriously a goal - don’t want to make 2nd place feel bad - this is why the US is sinking to the bottom. We are so woke one the underperforming, or the obese, or the URM that we have to lessen all standards to accommodate - in education, health - all. I don’t want to be in PC!! What a goal!!

I think even the posters responding as if this were a legit post are keen to the fact it is a troll post and just piling on.

Then isn’t it time to recognize the unearned privilege Asian students receive in the US?

What privilege? Many of these kids are low SES immigrant families. It’s not privilege. It’s a strong family support and prioritizing education. These things can be found in any ethnic group among individual families.

Let’s just close all the schools and not teach anyone anything. Then we can all raise illiterate children who are equal.

This country is not in a good place when we genuinely can’t tell the difference anymore between satire and real posts.
