Party at house - approx 50 people

Anonymous
Would it be too much to invite 50 adults for a party at our house in this situation?

Here’s the set up: we have 1000 square feet on first floor (open floor plan), plus approx. 1000 square feet in backyard/patio space. The event would be in late May/early June, so hopefully not too hot to be outside (although who knows if weather will cooperate.)

Catered with a bartender, so no need to use the kitchen space/island, so folks could sit and gather around there as well.

Thoughts? Reactions?

Sounds lovely.

How many bathrooms do you have? Are you on septic?

Probably OK, as long as it ends up like this:

Only one on first floor, but two on second. Not on septic.

And that got me thinking of logistics. But actually, guests arriving later may have to drive around a block or two to find parking, but otherwise early evening parking isn’t so bad around us.

Went to a lovely catered party at a small house. 50+ guests. Most folks congregated outside around the bar. They had some tables and chairs set up outside.

Remember when we were teens and packed upwards of 100 people into a house for a keg party? Anything is possible as long as the vibe is fun ;0)

Do it! If people are uncomfortable some will just leave early, and that will free up space.

I think it’s fine and will be lovely. I much prefer to mingle than sit. I might try to get a tent just in case it rains.

We have a pretty open first floor, and of that open space a smaller section is the kitchen, and that's where everyone hung out at our last party. So the question really is - how big is the kitchen area?

Smack dab in the middle of the house (definitely not my preferred layout). Which is why I won’t be do any cooking.

Oh, you asked how big it is. Pretty much 1/3 of the first floor.

Consider posting a sign about the two upstairs bathrooms and checking with your caterer and bartender to confirm they have enough space for what they need. Sounds fun.

Rent a nice luxury bathroom trailer. I went to a lovely wedding in a backyard that rented these. https://www.majoreventtrailers.com/

Sounds lovely. But if it's catered then the caterer will need to use the kitchen.
