Parent Boards at State Colleges

Anonymous
Anyone parents here part of the parent board at their child's state colleges? Can you share your experience and if it had any impact on your students college experience?

Yes. It’s more for me than my child—really doesn’t help my child at all. But I enjoy the conferences and dinners and I like being positive outreach rep for the university. I also now know a lot more about how the university is run from behind the scenes. I understand the long range goals and why certain choices were made. That helps me feel like my tuition dollars and donations are a good investment. The only concrete positive for my child is a senior reception invitation next year—the rest is for me.

Umd wouldn't allow me to join FB group. Not frequent user of the app so I guess they couldn't "verify" me.

I think OP means a council-type group, not a FB group.
