Enjoy, my fellow nerds!

A few notes:

DCI Chinese 6th = 31 offers, 30 for 8th
DCI French 6th = 30 offers, 19 for 8th. Clearly trying to plus up these cohorts.

Mundo P St has already made 30 PK3 offers.

44 5th grade offers at BASIS, plus 8 EA offers
11 5th grade at Latin Cooper (no EA offers yet)
13 5th grade offers at Latin 2nd (plus 3 EA offers)

38 9th grade offers at Walls. McKinley Tech made an offer to the one lonely person on its waitlist.

We’ve got an offer at Key and are now #1 at Mann. I’m not sure what happened this year but I’m super happy with my choices. We were really lucky in the lottery this year.

Overall I’m thinking Mann over Key because of the aftercare cost and availability.

At Mann, 5 days of aftercare + before care is $725 all in and it’s held at the school.

At Key, you are shut out at the school for aftercare the first year bc of the waitlist. There is availability in the surrounding areas but the cheaper of the 2 is $8325 Sep-June. So an $1100 difference and that doesn’t include before care, but that’s at the school. It’s just cost prohibitive for me because I need 5 days (single mom) and this is so much more than I was expecting to pay. I was really happy for Key but don’t know how to afford the extra care I’d need.

165 9th grade offers at MacArthur, wow

If you’re lotterying for 5th grade, looks like Capitol Hill Montessori is almost through their whole waitlist

I'm stunned that Cooper is moving so little, less than 2nd St!

EA at BASIS is going to be a disaster.

On the other side, Mundo Calle Ocho waitlist is significantly longer than P and barely moved in ECE/K and 1st-5th 0 movement.
The other Spanish immersion charters barely any movement in the upper grades either.
So guarantee of getting into feeder in upper grades for a chance at DCI is not happening.

That's not really fair. Being disadvantaged doesn't mean you're unintelligent. It also doesn't mean you aren't serious about school.

It’s only June. They’re probably trying not to over enroll and further reduce the odds of the DCI preference right as current parents start worrying over the DCI lottery.

My kids got Stokes offers in upper grades 4 of the last 6 years.

Quick glance as a ward 4 parent; Takoma and Whittier not offering one spot so far for PK3 is remarkable.

You said the quiet part out loud. Why do you assume that kids who are economically disadvantaged are dumb and/or can't apply themselves? Why do you assume they don't have or can't develop executive functioning? Some of these 10 and 11 year old kids have already dealt with more sh*t in their lives than you will ever know and they are still in the game fighting to succeed. EA preferences are designed precisely for this reason; to ensure kids who more than many others need a solid educational footing have access.

Not really. They will take th assessment on the 24th and the school will know who is below grade and hopefully get them tutoring. And by the end of 6th, if they haven't caught up, they won't be able to return. The EA kids who have potential and work hard will be able to stay, and those who fall below grade level won't.

BASIS doesn't do social promotion, and it won't change that just bc they have EA now. So I don't see a long term disaster.

Man. Every year this goes on, I remember how my own kid was #350 for PK4 at Mundo P St. It is absolutely stunning what's happened to that school.

Do you mean it's going to be a disaster because they're not able to fill the slots? By my count, there's only two kids remaining on the wait-list.
