Well, the last time the rising u15s at GFR played MYS Green (in the 2025 State Cup) they won 6-0; the rising u14s at GFR tied MYS Green at the Jefferson Cup in just this March, and the rising u13s also tied MYS Green at the 2025 State Cup, the last time they played, so to be that confident you must have brought in some outsiders developed elsewhere.

That is ancient history, at this point.

Exactly. Those GFR players will be wearing different uniforms next year.

I apologize if this has already been answered, but I'm a little new to this thread. Why did the coach of BSC 10 get fired by FVU? Seems like he was doing well over there and was asked to leave, why?

Because he wouldn’t play kickball.

Come on, I'm being serious. What happened?

He was told to choose between Union and GFR after GFR bought his contract-for-hire coaching company a year earlier. He chose not to dump GFR. Union didn't renew his contract for the following season, but let him finish out his term for the rest of the season including the playoffs. During that time, he negotiated an offer with Bethesda to keep coaching both programs and some of his players followed him to Bethesda. Pretty straightforward.

Why did Union make him choose between GFR and Union? Union invited a bunch of no name clubs to join afterwards — why not just add GFR? At some point it seemed like GFR was going to join.

I don't think GFR was ever going to join Union, not with MYS pulling out at that time. I think the clubs that have always seemed like a more obvious merger are MYS and GFR. Those 2 clubs together would make for a competitive club and probably draw a lot of talent from the folks digruntled with FVU and NVA, etc.

agreed, would love to see the MYS & GFR unification as well and try to take the best of both clubs in terms of fields and coaches and badges. But the past 5 years make me think that no 'union' can survive in the ego-driven world of soccer. Is VDA the only successful union of two clubs where success means having teams in one of the top leagues and the partnership staying intact for 10+ years? I'm not counting FVU because the union keeps changing, and NVA is controlled by Loudon (or whatever the exact arrangement is). MD teams seem to have some successful unions (Celtic, Armour) though I'm not sure how long those have existed, so is this a VA problem?

What’s in it for MYS to merge? Most of the talent on the girls side at GFR is gone…

Same could be said for MYS. Since their move to GA it is no longer a destination club for girls in the area. In fact there is a slow trickle out and a lot of in-fighting. So, whichever MYS mom or dad wrote the PP ... sit down and be humble.

Not the PP but you GFR apologist are hilarious. GFR is in shambles and shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence as MYS. VRSC just stole all of your good players on the girls side. GFR was never a destination club in the past and given recent events will never be in the future. I don’t get the arrogance that some of your uninformed parents exhibit. gFR is a second rate club always has been. LOL

MYS saying another club is in shambles is rich! Ha! You have some guy in charge after you lost CW, NM and ML that makes the team mom bribe him by paying for private training. You’re losing all your credibility and players and had to force your 2014 to sign on in November because you lost your entire 2013 team last year. And for what??? MLS Next 2? Worry about the state of your own crap club before casting stones.

Pretty sure the bar is fielding teams at healthy numbers for non-ecnl clubs at this point.

Doubt it. Between my two DDs and friends, I know all of the Blue girls teams 2012 to 2015 pretty well (i.e. the rising u15 team and younger), and by and large those teams, including the standouts, are returning, including some folks who had tried a year elsewhere and are coming back.

I don't know the older formerly GD teams as well, but expect many of them--esp. those who haven't already gone to VR$C--would be happy for a change in coaching.

haha MYS has one good team in those age groups balanced out by 3-4 teams that are TSJ-level horrific.

Is BSC still coming for FVU 2010s? Looks like NM isn’t working out for that team.
