| It is true that Shady Grove doesn't allow the gender selection if we do the PGS? It just seem odd to me that we pay $3K for PGS and we can't select the gender we want. I know Dominion Fertility let you know the gender and which one to put it back. |
| long discussion about a month ago on which local clinics allow. Try searching and may come up. |
| SG doesn't allow gender selection in routine cases. We got the report only listing the normal/abnormal embryos. There are other clinics that reveal gender. |
+1 the discussion got pretty heated too so there's a lot for you to read there. I think the title said something about gender balancing? |
Yep. True. |
You can find out the gender (after all you paid for it) by having the SG dr clear the release of this info to you by the testing clinic. It's not a huge deal. HOWEVER, they will not transfer an embryo of requested gender. Eg. you may know that you have 3 girl and 1 boy frostie, but they will not tell you which one they transferred. If it's super important once you have PGSed frozen embryos you can take them someplace that will allow gender selection. |

I can't imagine why anywhere wouldn't if you had a gender - linked issue.
I can't imagine how you could think you should have kids if you want to pay for a certain gender only. |
My friend has a gender-linked issue and had PGD at SG. She knew the grades and sex of each embryo and chose accordingly. |
The latter is called family balancing and is not against the currently acceptable medical ethics in the US. If you have 1 child, it's acceptable to request the opposite gender of the existing child. If people want to do it, it's not a crime against humanity. It's people like you who oppose fertility treatments all together - why, gasp, you can't imagine paying to have children... |
correct. for some reason, however, it seems to be against SGs internal ethical codes, as we we were told that the gender of the embryos would not be revealed unless and untill we were actually pregnant. for those unfortunate women who have to go through reductions, many doctors will allow them choose (if medically possible) based on gender as well. |
When I had a consult with Ivigen (which will be doing my PGS) they said that I have to ask the doctor at SG authorize release of gender info, and Ivigen will send it to me. PGS is out of pocket, for AMA. |
| Interesting because IviGen told me they needed a note from SGF RE indicating a positive pregnancy test. Either way for me it ended up not mattering, but I can see how this would be a huge deal for someone who needs to know gender. |
I'll double check on that next week. But it doesn't make sense. SG does not do gender selection, period. So what is the difference between me knowing genders of embryos and getting a BFP and me knowing the gender and getting BFN. I cannot do anything with this info at SG regardless of the current cycle result. |
Take a step back. No one is opposed to fertility treatments. I just think paying to create a designer child is a slippery slope. And family balancing is BS. There is a reason most clinics won't do it even if it is not technically against the rules. Because it is gross, and if you only want you perfect vision of a child you shouldn't have kids at all. |
