Good job, Free Britney! Yay!

She may have addiction issues and a mental illness but so do millions of Americans...they don't get put under conservatorships. She is lucky to have full-time security guards and a ton of money that will take her another decade to spend down even if she spends like a maniac.

She needs a conservatorship or longterm hospitalization.

Kanye west also reportedly has uncontrolled mental illness, behaves very erratically and spends like crazy. Why does the conversation around Britney go immediately to conservatorship? I’ve never heard mention of a conservatorship with respect to Kanye.

A lot of you seem unable to use common sense.

1. Kanye literally has no one to look after him. The single mom who raised him is dead, his old friends like Jay-Z have distanced themselves, and the Kardashian Koven has thrown him away now that they’re done using him. There’s no one to seek a conservatorship because no one cares for him.

2. Conservatorships are for people who need protection. Kanye is the serial victimizer in his situation, as most mentally ill men are. It stands to reason that Kanye is perceived as not needing a conservatorship because HE is the threat to others. Others aren’t a threat to him and there’s no evidence he’s a threat to himself, completely out of touch with reality (sorry, disliking his views doesn’t mean he no longer comprehends reality) or too strung out on drugs to function.

Similar to how MIA is mentally unstable and lost custody of her son, but no one talks conservatorship with her because there’s no evidence she’s being taken advantage of, as opposed to being aggressive and paranoid towards others. Like Kanye, there’s also no evidence that MIA is a danger to herself or too strung out on drugs to function.

I dislike the Kardashians but feel compelled to disagree with the bolded statement. I do believe that Kim worked very hard to support Kanye - even going so far as to publicly lie about his conversation with Taylor Swift (I'm no Swiftie either) and release an edited recording.

I understand what it's like to have a spouse with mental illness. When a spouse continues to refuse to treat their illness, there comes a time when you have to make decision about what's best for you and your kids. Clearly, Kim got to that point. She and her kids were better off if they divorced.

Kris Humphries, on the other hand, was totally used and tossed away....

Why is it important that there is a trust for the kids? They are almost adults and are not entitled to any of her money.

An entire cottage industry has developed of people sponging off Britney. Why would her immediate family be any different?

I don’t see how Kanye is comparable to Britney. Kanye is not a drug user or a partier like Britney and he isn’t getting scammed by his dating partners or allowing criminals in his inner circle. Kanyes from Chicago even though contrary to his music , he grew up the child of two college professors and spoiled, he still knows scam artists when he sees one.

Kim would make sure he didn’t have any custody or visitation if he did anything to harm the kids. If he’s done as much car accidents and driving without a license as Britney has done over the years , he’d be in jail probably

They want Britney to be alive.

They don’t care about the money. She’s in deep danger.

The money will go to them if she dies anyway so if they care about the money like everyone claims, they would want her to spiral. It would serve their purposes.

You’re right. It’s best she leave her money to scamming ex MS 13 members and blowing it all on meth instead

Doesn't Britney have a record of being out of control and violent? She is not only a victim here.

Plus, Kanyes kids want to be with him. Kim has said North likes Kanye over her.

Britney’s sons want nothing to do with her. They’re scared of her. She is not well.

Anyone that’s ever seen the clips of her dancing around on her IG can see she is not well. Even her pets seem anxious and nervous around her

The thing is, if someone is controlled down to their meals for years, they might blow a gasket. She obviously has some issues but some of what she did sounds like a normal human response to being controlled, abused, and micromanaged as an adult for more than a decade. But, since she’s a woman, people are quick to write her off as the problem and assume the best of her dad, despite the fact that there’s way more evidence that he was abusive and controlling than there is that she’s on any drugs at all.

“Woman crazy, man hero” story has played out dozens of times and Taylor Swift has written more than a few songs about it.

I’m sure she needed help. But not from her dad - or any of the men in her life, apparently.

Her mom tried to help her at the peak of her 2007 Meltdown and she kicked her out of her home and told her to get lost and never to see her again. She has lots of anger issues at everyone: her family, her management, the industry . I think the only person not scared of Britney in that family is Jamie.

This is going to have devastating effects as she will subconsciously pick out abusive /domineering men that resemble her father as her partners .

She really was my pop idol back in the day. Sadly I think she’s headed for an early demise. She’s so troubled and mentally ill and her family no long has any role in her life. Maybe the conservatorship seemed an abusive to us outsiders but clearly she could not function on her own.

It was determined she has a severe mental illness and lack of understanding of her actions and behavior . She doesn’t remember what she does. That’s how bad her mental state is

Yeah it was never in doubt she has mental illness. The question was, is a conservatorship justified or is it a violation of her rights to have no control over herself simply because she has mental illness. The conservatorship was lifted because her dad stopped fighting it and for better or worse, she has the legal right to destroy her life and lose all her money. That’s probably what’s going to happen.

None of us will truly know the truth of what’s happening to her or why her family put her under a conservatorship but she is not well and has not been since about 2007. Being out of her conservatorship won’t magically make her mental illness go away. But, she does have the right to spend all her money and ruin her life , just like all the rest of us do.

Why don’t all the Free Britney people take turns ensuring Britney is free to do exactly what she wants? Where is that HouseinHabit basket case now?

Mariah wrote in her memoir her mother and brother tried to get a conservatorship and control over her money during her 2001 meltdown. It didn’t work because Mariah still had her marbles after hospitalization for exhaustion and a nervous breakdown.

Britney’s case is a bit more complicated because she was a mother of two infant boys at the time she had her breakdown. Stripping custody away from her made her spiral even further. Perhaps post partum depression from 2 consecutive babies was also a role. She was also in her mid 20s which is when bipolar, schizophrenia, or borderline often rears its ugly head in an intense maniacal way often with self medicating and substance abuse .

Britney had all of this going on plus intense paparazzi attention on a daily.

Britney’s family begged her to move down to Louisiana apparently with her boys for help because paparazzi would not be welcomed by the small conservative towns there but she didn’t want to do so and in her documentary for MTV from 2008, she said that was her biggest mistake.

People with bipolar disorder love the attention that comes from fame so I understand why Britney loved and invited the paparazzi . She even invited them to her home or let them valet her car or buy her cigarettes from the store. She reveled in the attention because she was destroyed after she lost her marriage and kids

+1 This. Britney is making some bad choices, like many in the rest of this country. But that's her right--she earned that money at the expense of her childhood and her personal life. If she isn't hurting anyone and wants to blow her money on bad choices, that's also her right. If that means a smaller trust fund for her kids with Federline, so be it. They're probably better off having to have the pressure to work for a living.

Do you have any experience with a family member who is severely mentally ill? I do a lot, unfortunately. This isn’t a gender issue that she doesn’t need control from the men in her life. It’s complex and there are no easy answers. None. And it doesn’t just effect the ill person, it effects the entire family. In this case, she has 2 children. She is a danger to them. Just because people liked her as a pop star or she comes across as fun and friendly doesn’t mean she should even be alone with her children. It also doesn’t mean she should have free range over all her decisions.

Plenty of bipolar and other mentally ill people refuse medication and think they don’t need help. Then their chaos and horrible decisions become the orbit of everyone around them.

Britney is worse off today.
