Ignore the naysayers! My kid has gotten off two waitlists, heard from a third asking confirmation that kid is still interested (even tho they had loci), hasn’t heard from about 5 others. But since there are 5 outstanding that kid hasn’t heard from, I assume it is like your situation: no news means still possible… |
It’s not always solely true of course, but some private colleges do turn to private HS first for WL movement. |
That is your best guess, but we don’t really know, do we? |
My view. Based on who I’m seeing getting in. Also based on my private college counselor…. But you may differ. |
Yes, I’ve seen lots of FCPS kids be swapping now that waitlists are opening. My child did. |
It's a waitlist, not a delayed offer of acceptance. Sometimes the percent taken off the waitlist is 0-5% of those who accept the waitlist spot. Assume you'll never hear anything, then be surprised and happy if you do. |
false. and i am a private college counselor |
I don’t think it’s typical for top school waitlists to move before mid May. |
Agree. Why would you think that you "should have heard by now?" |
+1 We viewed a waitlist as a soft rejection and moved on. UMD is an excellent school. Congrats! |
Not sure why you think you should have heard by now; aren’t you aware of extended dates due to FAFSA in addition to the stats on waitlists? I am sympathetic as Mr kid is on a WL too. But it’s better to be realistic at this point. |
My DS has gotten off two waitlists so far — UMiami and a SLAC in New England. Several others still outstanding. Seems like there’s move, ent, and early. |
Huh. I think the ppl on YCBK would disagree, given they discussed this very thing in April. Oh well, different views are ok. Everyone should do their own research on this (and any other topic)..... But reality is there's not much you can do about it now so I wouldn't worry. Its more for the info sharing that I even posted my experience. I'd note that our private school's CCO has been meeting with ALL WL kids for last 3 weeks and was working the phone hard. The WashU WL opened up in April - but clearly bc of school's relationship. Same with a few other schools. Note its only private colleges & universities. Don't think they have any sway with the flagships. |
I'd agree. Lots of early movement this year. Look on college confidential (they have a tag for "waitlist") |
And public school counselors have time to do.... zero. Wonder who will have better results? A real mystery. |
