Quick dream trip in August

Anonymous

Looking for an upscale but low key trip for a family of 3 in either beginning or mid August. We've done Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Kennebunkport & other coastal towns in Maine many times and could easily do again but started thinking about Prince Edward Island or other parts of Canada? Is it worth it or are we better off with New England? We like low key but not rustic. Love sailing, fine dining, beaches, good food, etc. TIA

Would like to stick to the Eastern seaboard but have heard good things.

Might not be east enough, but Toronto. Easy journey from DC. Great food. Better temps than here. Lakefront.

I have heard is very touristy / has a Disney like quality to it now from someone who visited.

I recommend Cape Breton National Park in Nova Scotia. Absolutely gorgeous views. It’s a driving route and you can stop and get out along the way for fabulous views or a picnic. You can ask AI tools to make you an itinerary. I asked Gemini and here’s what it recommended:
August is a fantastic time to visit Nova Scotia! Here's a possible itinerary that incorporates some of the best things the province has to offer during the summer months:

Halifax & Atlantic Coast

Start your trip in the capital city of Halifax. Explore the Halifax Waterfront boardwalk, which is full of shops, restaurants, and historical sites. Be sure to visit the Halifax Citadel, a star-shaped fort overlooking the harbor.

Take a day trip to Peggy's Cove, a small fishing village known for its colorful houses and iconic lighthouse.
Spend a day exploring the beaches of the Atlantic Coast. Some of the best beaches in Nova Scotia include Basin Head Beach, Evangeline Beach, and Lawrencetown Beach.

Cape Breton Island is a must-visit for any trip to Nova Scotia. The island is home to the Cabot Trail, a scenic driving route that winds its way through the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

Yes! It sounds like Nova Scotia is the place for you!! Great food and beautiful scenery and not too hot and not too crowded. I’d also put in a plug for New Brunswick (look at st Andrews or around bay of fundy) enjoy!!

Newport, RI would definitely fit your bill

PEI is completely boring.

What is a "dream" trip?

PEI is great but more rustic than upscale. Also you need to book summer cottages about a year in advance.
