| Where do I find a shadow or individual aide? ASD son will be attending a private preschool or daycare and is 3 yrs old. |

| We tried care.com and found it worked better for us to search for people on the site than for people to respond to our ad. A lot of people responding to our ad had clearly not read it and were just attracted to the pay scale. Out of the 20 total candidates that we found or that contacted us on care, only 1 or 2 were actually decent matches/available/interested. We also placed an ad on a local listserve. We got pretty good candidates from that (we specifically asked for former teachers, OTs, SLPs, etc.) It was definitely the better route for us. We heard from some other parents that they hired former nannies as an aide for their child in preschool. Depends on the skillset needed. I also heard from some preschool teachers that it is common for daycares to post ads on Indeed, so lots of preschool teachers look for jobs there. Never tried it but that might be something to consider, too. Good luck!! |

My child is not yet communicating wants and needs and needs support with some self-care skills and directions. I would like the aide. |

| If you are in Fairfax County contact Child Find, the county will help place a child like that in a PAC and you could request 1 on 1 support. |

| We got a private shadow through an ABA agency. It is covered by insurance with an ASD diagnosis. |

Does the school have any suggestions?
I was a shadow one year. I had been a sub at the school the year prior and the school hooked me up w the family to talk about the opportunity. It ended up working out really well. |
